A railway is being built

An unfinished painting of a landscape at Töölö bay.

The railway changed the landscape of Helsinki. An embankment was built through Töölönlahti for the railway and the bedrock excavated for the zoo. Magnus von Wright’s unfinished painting from 1862 does not show any rails, which were already in use at the time.
